The British University in Egypt

The British University in Egypt (BUE) is a private non-profit higher education institution. The BUE was founded in 2005 and over the following 19 years, has become one of the most important private universities in Egypt and is now firmly established as a high-quality teaching and research institution. The BUE’s vision is to become one of the leading broad-spectrum teaching and research universities in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, offering a British ethos of higher education with a range of UK and other European and global partners and providing internationally recognized quality degrees that develop its students’ knowledge and skills and help them lead their countries.

The Economics Department is one of three departments forming the Faculty of Business Administration, Economics and Political Science - BAEPS. The most important research areas of interest to the Economics Department staff are environmental economics and sustainability, development economics, behavioral and experimental economics, financial economics, and energy economics. With five specialization areas, the Faculty of Engineering at the British University in Egypt is among the fastest growing and best equipped in the country. The faculty’s exceptional student experience is driven by low student-to-professor ratios, strong ties to industry, strong commitment to teaching and exposure to current and relevant curricula. Both faculties are forming the oldest arms of The British University in Egypt and possess several attractive post graduate programs.

Two of BUE’s interesting master’s programs emphasize sustainability and renewable energy transition.  The Renewable Energy master’s program, which started in 2011 is one of the leading programs in Egypt in the energy area. The program is currently modified to accommodate the new trends in Energy courses such as Energy management and Hydrogen production and applications. While BAEPS is proposing a new course on “Green Technology and Renewable Energy” into the curriculum of its newly planned professional MSc in Sustainability and Digitalization. The course should provide students with the know-how on assessing and managing renewable energy projects. The course should also examine the drivers and barriers of adopting renewable energy on micro and macro levels. A special focus will be dedicated to green hydrogen, its importance, and the benefits of adopting hydrogen technology.

The H2-Market project will build on this framework to integrate further transfer relevant aspects into the course structure and allow other project partners to implement similar programs (see activities).
